American Single Malt Whiskey has officially been recognized as its own category by the TTB (The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau)—an achievement Stranahan’s, a pioneer in American Single Malt, is proud to celebrate.
“As the category leader in American Single Malt Whiskey, and one of its original pioneers, Stranahan’s applauds the TTB’s designation of American Single Malt Whiskey as an official category,” said Lander Otegui, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Proximo Spirits. “Stranahan’s has spent the past 20 years defining and innovating American Single Malt whiskey, and today stands proudly as the number one-selling, most awarded brand in its category.”
“Having a category-leading brand in our portfolio speaks to Proximo Spirits’ vision for creating, disrupting, and growing categories. Today marks a milestone, both domestically and internationally. It puts American Single Malt and Stranahan’s on a global stage like never before. As an official whiskey category – legally defined and protected by the US government – American Single Malt has earned its place alongside bourbon, rye, and other categories that today enjoy worldwide recognition. This is a generational event, the last such designation having been made over 50 years ago.”
For Stranahan’s, the announcement is a validation of the vision and perseverance that began two decades ago, crafting American Single Malt Whiskey that stands apart.
“Twenty years ago, Stranahan’s had the vision to focus solely on American Single Malt, perfecting one recipe and one recipe alone since 2004,” said Justin Aden, Head Blender at Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey. “Stranahan’s is made with 100% malted barley, Rocky Mountain spring water, and time in an American White Oak barrel, distilled and aged entirely one mile high here in Denver, CO.”
“Two decades after Stranahan’s sold its first bottle of American Single Malt Whiskey, we continue to carry the torch for the category. It’s why we could not be more proud to see American Single Malt become an official category all its own. We celebrate with everyone who has bottled their passion and stayed the course, and with all of our Stranafans, without whom we wouldn’t be here today.”
