PROCESS & PROFILE

A Release of Rare Distinction

Mountain Angel 14 Year is the oldest whiskey Stranahan’s has released. Fourteen years at 5,280 feet asks much of a barrel, and each year more is lost to the angel’s share. What remains is smaller in volume and deeper in character. The whiskey is then finished in rare Tokaji casks from Hungary, adding honeyed depth and dried orchard fruit to a whiskey shaped by fourteen Colorado winters.

Our Unique Angel’s Share

Mountain Angel 14 Year spends fourteen years in new charred American oak at 5,280 feet, and every barrel gives a share to the angels. What stays behind ages slowly and deliberately, resulting in an American Single Malt whiskey that is refined, integrated and harmonious.

Origin & Region

Tokaji comes from the Tokaj wine region in northeastern Hungary (with a small part in Slovakia). It is one of the world’s oldest protected wine regions and was historically prized by European nobility. The wine is shaped by “noble rot” (botrytis), a beneficial fungus that shrivels the grapes and concentrates their sugars. The result is an intensely sweet, complex dessert wine. Only traditional varieties are used: Furmint, Yellow Muscat (Sárgamuskotály) and Zéta.

The Barrels

Tokaji barrels are typically made of Hungarian oak, not the American or French oak usually used for whiskey. This European oak tends to have a tighter grain, giving a more refined, elegant tannin structure rather than American oak’s bold vanilla character.

DISTILLATION: Distilled in small batches from 100% malted barley and pristine Rocky Mountain water.

MATURATION: Matured for a full 14 years, this exceptional whiskey is finished in rare Tokaji casks from Hungary.

CUT: Cut to proof with pristine Rocky Mountain water.

NOSE: Candied apricot, orange marmalade, prune & raisin.

PALATE: Baked apple and stone fruits round into vanilla and caramel. Velvety mouthfeel, rich tobacco, lingering pepper.

FINISH: Lingering tropical tones, rich chocolate and drying oak spice.
